Nursery Décor Ideas

There’s nothing more exciting than decorating your baby’s nursery. It’s the space that welcomes them into this world and should boast a calming and inviting atmosphere that’s full of wonder. Regardless of gender, a nursery should be both fun and functional. From nursery wallpaper to paint ideas, we’ve put together our favourite nursery décor ideas to help you create an idyllic paradise for your baby.

1. Create pops of colour with paint

Don’t be afraid to branch out from a completely neutral colour palette. In fact, contrasting bright colours will help to stimulate your baby’s visual and cognitive development.

Use a neutral shade for most of the room. Then, select a brighter shade to create a contrasting accent wall. If you have a creative streak, why not try your hand at painting a mural or a playful pattern on the wall.

2. Revive and transform furniture

Revamp second-hand pieces or personalise simple furniture with furniture paint. Discover how to upcycle your furniture with paint here.

Transform basic cots and dressers with stunning shades such as dusky pink, duck egg or powder blue. You can also use our range of stencils to create fun patterns.

Top tip: If you’re looking simple nursery décor ideas to transform your furniture, try swapping out the handles for colourful polka knobs

3. Play with patterns

Nursery wallpaper is a simple and effective way to play with patterns and create a fun feature wall in your baby’s bedroom.

Encourage their growing minds and spark their imagination with playful animal patterns or geometric designs. We have a great selection of wallpaper, such as Disney Princesses, Little Ones Wild Jungle and colourful rainbows

Top tip: If you have any remaining wallpaper, use the leftovers to line the bottom of drawers or under a bookshelf to create an eye-catching feature.

4. Create the ultimate cosy corner

In your baby’s first year, you’ll likely be spending as much time in their nursery as they do.

A comfy chair is a must for bedtime stories and the night-time feed. Decorate with super-soft throws and plush cushions to create a snug space.  Finish off the cosy vibes with a shaggy rug

Top tip: To create an inviting feel, add a floor lamp to provide soft lighting.

5. Personalise with accessories

Add character to a basic nursery theme with personalised accessories and toys.

Fill the space with memories using stylish photo frames. Once your child is old enough, you can showcase their artwork in a frame as well.

Store toys, games and other miscellaneous items in storage baskets.  Adding a mirror will give the illusion of a larger space and provide a perfect picture spot to capture your baby smiling at their own reflection.

Top tip: Mark important milestones or jot down things you need to remember on a hanging chalkboard.

6. Stylish floating shelves

Nurseries are usually one of the smallest rooms in your house, so maximise your space and storage by using floating shelves. They are a great way to display children’s books, toys, and décor.

We have a wonderful collection of floating shelves in a range of designs and sizes to suit any nursery. Whether you want to put your baby’s favourite stories on display in a bookshelf, hang their most worn coat on a cloud hook, or keep their most loved teddies on a tray shelf.

7. Blanket ladder

A decorative blanket ladder is a unique and easy way to store blankets, swaddles and more.

Repurpose a white towel ladder to display your prettiest blankets and muslin cloths. Alternatively, a ladder shelf is another great storage solution for baby essentials, making them easily accessible while keeping the space tidy.

8. Include a blackout blind

Installing a blackout blind is a nursery décor idea that you’ll be thankful for. Controlling light and darkness will help to encourage a regular sleep schedule for your little one.

Our blackout roller blinds are available in a range of colours to complement any nursery theme. Choose from a selection of classic neutral blinds or opt for a more playful rainbow patterned or safari themed blind.

9.Let’s think about safety

A crucial consideration to factor in is how you will protect your baby as they roam around their own space. Disguise unsightly radiators and shield your little one from their heat with a radiator cover. Prevent electric shocks with socket covers, add bump guards to the edges of sharp objects and, especially if your nursery is near a staircase, use a safety gate to avoid dangerous accidents.
