Whether you opt for porcelain, vinyl, natural stone, or ceramic tiles, these kitchen floor tile designs are sure to get you feeling inspired. Take a look at our guide on how to lay floor and wall tiles for some top tips before you get started.

1. Moroccan-inspired patterns

Invite the captivating atmosphere of Marrakech into your home by updating your flooring with decorative kitchen tiles designs. A repeat pattern laid across the entire floor will create an eye-catching feature and complements a sleek, modern look as much as a traditional kitchen interior. To capture the magic of Morocco, look for floral and ornate geometric patterns in earthy tones. For a more contemporary twist, opt for a pale grey or pastel colour palette. Terracotta and stone tiles are also a great way to create a Mediterranean feel in your kitchen.

Top tip: If you have any leftover tiles, you can use them to make an eye-catching kitchen splashback.

2. Wooden flooring without the hassle

Classic wooden floorboards will never go out of style. However, they can be a chore to maintain in a busy family home! Wood effect tiles are a great alternative. They’re simple to install, offer durability, and spills and stains can be wiped up without leaving a trace. There are several laying patterns to choose from, including standard brick bond, chevrons, and linear block. You can even recreate the look of a heritage parquet floor for a fraction of the price!

Modern kitchen tiles with a driftwood or whitewashed finish work well in a more contemporary space, whereas traditional oak and walnut-look tiles bring the cosiness of a traditional farmhouse kitchen.

3. Classic chessboard chic

Two-tone floor tiles make a real statement and are an interior classic that has really stood the test of time. Lay alternating black and white kitchen floor tiles for a sophisticated effect that will complement jewel-toned cabinets perfectly. For a bolder look, experiment with contrasting colours  or alternate pale pink and white tiles for a calming but contemporary colour palette. To create the clever illusion of extra space, lay your tiles diagonally across the floor.

Our Cube tile design is perfect for recreating a chessboard-style pattern. The half and half design of our can be used to create endless laying patterns. With a range of timeless shades to choose from, you can create a design that’s completely unique to your space!

4. Herringbone laying patterns

Create subtle design interest by laying rectangular porcelain tiles in a herringbone pattern. This works best when using a single colour, but you could experiment with tonal shades if you’re looking to make a statement. It’s always a good idea to buy 10% more tiles than you think you’ll need, as this will allow for any wastage from cutting tiles for the edges and allow you to fill in any gaps. Wood-effect tiles work well for a traditional style, whereas pale grey or pastel ceramic tiles offer sophistication with a playful edge.

Top tip: If you’re laying tiles yourself, our guide on how to lay a herringbone tile pattern will come in useful.

5. Make it monochrome

Whether you opt for patterned or plain tiles, black and white kitchen floor tiles make an impact while still complementing a wide range of interior design styles. Graphic patterns work well in monochrome – think chevrons, geometric shapes and hexagon tiles if you’re after inspiration for modern tiled floors. For a more subtle approach, look for tiles with a white background and black detailing. This timeless look will work well against painted wood, shaker or gloss cabinets of every colour. It’s a great way to create an eye-catching feature without compromising on practicality.

Stars sub-trend: For beautiful monochrome tiles with a striking geometric pattern, look no further than the Country Living Starry Skies collection. The larger format 45 x 45mm tiles feature a striking star pattern which can create feature floors (and walls!) in any kitchen. These tiles are easy to style in your home with their monochromatic colour scheme and will take your space to the next level with their sleek star print.

6. Personalise by painting kitchen tiles

This is a great option if you want a colour change or to add a little extra design interest without replacing your existing tiling. First things first, make sure that you’ve got specialist tile paint to hand. Tile paint is waterproof, durable, specially formulated for ceramic tiles, and many formulas don’t require a base coat or primer. You’ll also want to make sure that your floor is spotless and to sand any imperfections before you get started for a smooth and long-lasting finish.

Tape any borders and nearby surfaces. Then, using a paintbrush, apply your first coat. Allow the paint to dry (this may take a day or so, always check the manufacturer’s advice). Once dry, you can repeat the process and apply a second coat of paint. Depending on the desired finish, a third coat may also be required. To add extra flair to modern kitchen tiles, you could even experiment with a stenciled design.

Top tip: The beauty of painted ceramic tiles is that you can touch up any wear and tear – make sure to keep a spare tin of tile paint just in case.

7. High Shine

Classic, clean and timeless, high shine tiles never go out of style. Our clean white Calacatta tiles feature a grey vein with a gloss finish, making them an elegant and luxurious choice. Calacatta Marble effect tiles will also complement most interior styles. Alternatively, keep things simple and sophisticated with plain white or grey gloss tiles to create a neutral canvas to build your kitchen interior around.
