Looking for a fresh perspective on roses? Here at Homebase there's a rose for everyone and we recently spent some time with our growers to find out how they produce the nation's favourite flower. So, grab your gardening gloves, it's time to go on a rosy adventure...

The Magic of Growing Roses

Nestled in the Herefordshire countryside you'll find our beautifully scented roses growing in a wide range of colours. Our collection comes in deeper pots with more established roots to make planting easy. Roses thrive in well-drained soil supported with specially blended compost. They enjoy a sunny spot and can be planted as a shrub or as a climber depending on your space.

Tips and Tricks for Rose Care

Taking care of roses may seem a bit daunting, but it's easier than you think. Here are some tips to keep your roses blooming beautifully throughout the year:

  1. Planting - When planting make sure you dig a large enough hole for the roots to spread out comfortably.
  2. Watering - Water frequently until the plant is well established. Once your rose has had some time to settle you'll only need to water once the ground begins to dry out.
  3. Feeding - Feed your new rose once a month as it starts to grow. We recommend adding our Rose Biofertiliser Rose Feed for more blooms and to make the plant more efficient at soaking up water.
  4. Pruning - Pruning may seem scary, but you only need to do it twice a year. Cut back the stems to about a third of their length to encourage more blooms.
  5. Pest Control - Keep an eye out for pests like aphids or black spots on the leaves. Using a spray treatment like Rose Clear Insecticide and Plant Protection Spray is a quick way to get back on top of your plant's care.
  6. Enjoy Them - Roses can bloom from late spring to early autumn so make you get out in the garden to enjoy the beautiful colours and scents.
