Frequently Asked Questions

How do you build or lay decking?

Want to know the right way to build or lay decking in your garden? Read our expert blog on how to lay decking, including a list of all the tools you'll need and a step-by-step guide for you to follow.

How do you clean decking?

The best way to clean your patio decking is with a power or jet wash. Learn more about how to clean decking by reading our in-depth blog. It includes advice on what you should use and a step-by-step guide on using a pressure washer to get your patio shining.

How much does decking cost?

How much your decking costs will depend on a number of factors, including the size, design and material of your decking. The complexity of the installation (i.e. odd shapes or positioning) can also change the overall cost. We recommend getting in touch with a Homebase expert, browsing our range of garden decking online or visiting us in store to learn more about the cost of adding a deck to your garden.

How much decking do you need?

To work out how much decking you need for your garden, first measure the length and width of your intended area. A rectangular or square area is easiest for this, but you can split oddly shaped areas into rectangles or squares too and add up their individual measurements. Once you have the length and width of your area, multiply them together to work out the square meterage. Now you can work out how many pieces of decking you'll need for your garden patio.

How long does decking last?

How long your decking lasts depends on the type of material you choose. Softwood decking is more affordable but will typically last around 10 to 15 years. Hardwood decking, meanwhile, will cost a bit more but can last for as long as 25 years if you maintain it well. Need more guidance?
