Step 1. Clear your space
First things first, you need to get your space ready for painting. Move furniture and remove any pictures, curtains or plugs from the wall (or walls) you want to paint, so you’ve got easy access to the space.
If you’ve got any electrical fittings or plug sockets, cover the edges with masking tape to avoid getting paint on them. Do the same for windowsills and any outlets that are at risk of getting painted accidentally.
It’s always a good idea to lay a dust sheet before you start to work with any paint or primer, to protect your furniture and floor from any paint spillages or splashes.
Step 2. Prep the wall
Once your space is clear and ready to work, you need to prep your wall. First, give the wall a quick wipe down with a damp cloth to remove any dust or dirt.
Next, you want to give your walls a thorough check over for any holes or deep scratches. If you do find any, you’ll need to fill these before you start. Use a wall filler and scraper to fill and then sandpaper to smooth them off.
Once your wall is completely dry and smooth, add some masking tape along the skirting boards to keep them paint-free. Now, you’re ready to paint.
Step 3. Apply the one coat paint
