How to choose the right shower
Choosing the right shower can be tricky, if you need a little help deciding which one is right for you our simple 3-minute guide will help.
Mixer showers take water from both your hot and cold water supplies. They mix the hot and cold to reach the right temperature. Digital mixer showers are very accurate when it comes to temperature control, and often have some great features. Mixer showers generally flow faster than electric showers and you can make the flow more forceful by adding a pump. Mixer showers are ideal for homes with plenty of hot water.
Electric showers only take water from the mains cold water supply. They heat the water when you turn the shower on, by passing it over a heating element inside the shower. (It’s similar to how a kettle works.) When you shower, you don’t use up any stored hot water – so electric showers are ideal for homes where the hot water supply is limited. Electric showers are always ready to use at any time and the higher its kilowatt rating, the better an electric shower is likely to perform. If the kilowatt rating is higher than 9.5kw, then you may need a new electrical cable to support the performance.
When you’re replacing an electric shower it’s worth checking the drawings which show where you’ll need to connect the cable and water supply for the new shower, before you buy it.
Power showers take water from both your hot and cold water supplies. They mix the hot and cold to create the right temperature. They’re ideal for homes with plenty of hot water and produce a more impressive spray force than mixer or electric showers, because an internal pump boosts the water flow.
