We all know that play is a crucial aspect of a child’s development. However, their creativity and expression can sometimes end in untidiness and disorganisation in your home or your child’s playroom. From stuffed animals haphazardly strewn across the room to building blocks littering the carpet, a jumble of toys without a storage place or bin can be a tidying-up nightmare for parents.

Hidden storage tricks, down-low shelving solutions, and decorative woven baskets are some of our favourite children’s bedroom storage and toy storage ideas. Make clean-up time fun and engaging with these simple kids storage tips.

1. Low down storage solutions

Our cube storage is perfect for getting your little one used to playing and tidying independently. Position the storage frame horizontally on the floor of your child’s bedroom. The inserts will be low enough for children to utilise the space and decide for themselves what they want to play with. To keep the toys hidden, use our cube inserts as storage boxes for your child’s knick-knacks. There are brilliant colours and patterns to choose from that are guaranteed to be a hit with a child’s vibrant colour preference.

2. Bookshelves

Reading is an important activity when growing up. Having books with colourful imagery on display can help your child want to read. To store books effectively, add a floating bookshelf to the wall of your child’s room and display their favourite reads at their height, so they can easily choose their favourite book.

Top Tip: Make reading fun with a designated reading corner. Add a comfy pillows and throws next to your child’s bookshelf.

3. Hooks

An easy way to clear a child’s space is by using hooks. De-clutter clothing, bags and toys left around the room by simply hanging the items up neatly.

Over door hooks can be the perfect device for toy room storage when there is a lack of space. Hanging items on the back of the door takes up very little room and leaves the floor looking neat and tidy.

If you are taking the décor of your child’s room seriously, there are children’s hooks available in an array of designs and colours. For a pop of colour, mount the rainbow hook to the wall. If your child is becoming independent, try mounting the hooks at their height so that they can tidy up themselves!

If floorspace is valuable real estate, hooks are an ideal toy storage idea for a smaller space.

4. Storage Towers

Storage towers are a colourful and simple way of teaching your little ones the value of organisation. Equipped with neatly fitting drawers in a variety of colours, they’re ideal for sorting building blocks or sorting figurines by size. Their sturdy shape and compact size also make them a perfect toy storage cupboard idea.

5. Underbed storage

In many homes, empty space under the bed is not utilised to its full potential and can become a storage solution for toys. Stick toys that are not your child’s everyday favourites under the bed, ready to be used again when necessary. Use large plastic storage containers or storage bins to get the most out of the under-bed space. Pack the toys in an organised manner or keep them in one place to make it easy to find that teddy or race car your little one suddenly can’t live without it. If you’re feeling creative, you could even use a labelling system to aid your organisation.

Underbed storage is also one of our favourite small playroom ideas. If you playroom is limited in size and demands an ingenious small or hidden toy storage idea, underbed storage is the way forward!
