Planning & Protection
Step 1. Protect your plants
Be sure to protect tender plants this month in case of frost. You could move them into large containers in a sheltered corner and cover them with horticultural fleece. If the weather is particularly cold you can move some plants indoors until the temperature rises again.
Step 2. Prune trees and shrubs
Winter pruning will encourage growth for you fruit trees, specially apples, pears and quince.
Remove No more than a third of the branches, aiming for the ones that a damaged and diseased first. Then take off ones that are crossing over eachother, or gowing towards the trunk.
Step 3. Harvest hardy winter vegetables
Try growing vegetables such as brussels sprouts, kale, leeks, parsnips and cabbages to ensure you have a vegetables throught the winter months.
Easy Growing Indoors
Step 1. Houseplants to brighten up the room
As there isn't much to do in the garden, why not add some houseplants to brighten up the home. A Poinsettia is a popular houseplant this month with its festive christmas red colouring.
Step 2. Feed and Water

Step 1: Winter Bird Care
Care for garden birds all year round but particularly during winter when food is scarce.
Step 2. Bird Food
Putting out high fat content bird food such as fat balls will help them through the winter.

All birds need to drink. They also need water to help keep their feathers in good condition.
Bird baths are the easiest option. Size doesn’t matter but a shallow dish shape should be used.
