- Produces sweet and soft fruits with great flavour
- Plant in full sun and well-drained soil
- Harvest in June to July
Kent-bred Strawberry ‘Marshmello’ delivers an exceptional, sweet flavour and a uniquely soft texture, a cut above supermarket varieties. This vigorous plant exhibits excellent resistance to common strawberry diseases. For best results, plant in autumn or late spring in a sunny, sheltered spot with well-manured, free-draining soil. Space plants 45cm (18") apart in rows spaced 75cm (30") apart, ensuring the crown is just above the surface to prevent rotting.
Alternatively, cultivate in hanging baskets or dedicated strawberry planters on your patio. Water frequently throughout the growing season and keep rows weeded. Plants in baskets and containers benefit from feeding every two weeks. From early summer, remove runners to maintain plant vigour. Protect developing fruit from slugs and snails with straw, and use netting to deter birds. After cropping, remove netting and straw to improve air circulation. Mulch with well-rotted manure in spring. While plants will fruit for several years, yields decrease significantly after three years, so replacement is recommended.
