Product Information

  • Produces juicy orange-red fruits from June to July
  • Grows well in full sun, reaching upto 20cm in height
  • Excels in containers or sunny patios

Strawberry ‘Cambridge Favourite’ remains a firm favourite, celebrated for its reliable nature and delicious fruits. This mid-season variety provides an abundant harvest of juicy, orange-red strawberries from June to July, boasting exceptional flavour and texture. Adaptable to various settings, Strawberry ‘Cambridge Favourite’ thrives in containers, making it ideal for patios where space is limited. Growing in a greenhouse or polytunnel can bring forwards or extend cropping periods.
For optimal growth, plant in autumn or late spring in a sunny, sheltered spot with well-manured, free-draining soil. Space plants 45cm (18”) apart in rows spaced at 75cm (30”). Ensure roots are spread out, positioning the crown just above the soil surface to prevent rotting. These strawberries also flourish in hanging baskets or specially designed strawberry planters for the patio.
Regular watering is essential throughout the growing season, along with consistent weeding between rows. Container-grown plants benefit from fortnightly feeding. Remove runners in early summer to maintain plant vigour. Protect developing fruits from slugs and snails by spreading straw around each plant, and use netting to deter birds. After harvest, remove the netting and straw to improve air circulation around the crown of the plant. Mulch with well-rotted manure each spring. While plants will continue to fruit for successive years, replacing them every three years will ensure the best possible crop.
