Product Information

  • Tuber blooms with vibrant yellow spiked flowers
  • Easy to grow in borders or containers
  • Tubers edible and can be lifted and replanted

Bring a burst of sunshine to any garden with Thompson & Morgan Yellow Dahlia Star Tuber that stand tall above lush foliage, creating an eye-catching display from summer right through autumn. Dahlia tubers thrive in sunny borders or patio containers, are easy to plant and care for, and reward you with masses of spiky, fully double flowers that can be lifted and replanted for even bigger displays next year. With edible flowers and tubers, you'll enjoy both beauty and versatility, making every season brighter and more colourful. How to grow: Plant dahlia tubers in April after all risk of frost has passed. Choose a sunny position in moist, well-drained soil. Prepare the soil by digging in plenty of well-rotted manure or compost. Plant tubers at a depth of 15cm (6”) and water well. Alternatively, starts tubers into growth in pots of compost in a frost free greenhouse. Transplant them into their final positions outdoors in June. Feed and water dahlias regularly throughout the growing season. While dahlia plants are still young, pinch out the growing tip of each stem to encourage bushier growth and masses for flowers. Deadhead faded dahlia flowers to encourage more blooms. Dahlia tubers may be lifted in autumn and stored over winter in trays of peat or sand, in a cool but frost free position if required. They can be potted up the following spring. Culinary note: All dahlia flowers and tubers are edible. The flavours and textures can vary greatly depending on the soil and conditions in which they were grown. Flavours range from water chestnut through to a spicy apple or even carrot.
