Grow Weigela in a sunny or semi-shaded spot, in well-drained soil. Before planting, enrich the soil with well-rotted manure or garden compost. Plant at the same depth as the pots, backfill, and water well to settle the soil. Water regularly during the growing season until established. In spring, mulch with well-rotted manure or garden compost. Weigela needs minimal pruning; after flowering, cut back stems to a healthy bud and remove a fifth of the old stems at ground level.
