- Produces deep pink tubular flowers
- Grows in sun or semi shade
- Highly attractive to pollinators
Weigela Florida ‘Alexandra’ boasts unusual dark-purple foliage, which deepens to near-black as it matures. Throughout late spring and early summer, pink, tubular flowers emerge, making it a superb choice for attracting pollinating insects to your garden. This Thompson and Morgan Weigela is an easy-to-grow, hardy, deciduous shrub with an upright habit, thriving in most moist, well-drained soil, whether planted in full sun or partial shade.
Requiring minimal upkeep, Weigela Florida ‘Alexandra’ will reach a height and spread of up to 150cm. For best results, enrich the planting area with plenty of well-rotted manure or garden compost before planting, ensuring the plant is set at the same depth as its original pot. Water thoroughly, particularly as it establishes. Regular watering is required throughout the growing season until young plants are fully established. An annual spring mulch of well-rotted manure or garden compost will further benefit growth. Pruning is minimal; simply trim back stems after flowering to a healthy bud, removing approximately one-fifth of the older stems to ground level. Ideal for cottage and wildlife gardens, or as a striking specimen plant.
