- Pink blooms from early to late summer
- Cream-edged variegated foliage
- Easy-care shrub for sun or part shade
Viburnum × bodnantense ‘Dawn’ is a hardy, deciduous shrub that offers a real treat in the winter garden, when its heavily scented flowers appear. The blooms emerge in a wonderful dark pink shade, gradually fading to white before small, rounded purple berries take their place in the summer. During autumn, the green foliage on the bare, woody stems transforms into bright orange and yellow hues. This popular garden plant, a winner of an Award of Garden Merit, boasts an exceptionally long season of interest from winter through to autumn, making it an excellent choice for prominent borders and wildlife gardens. For best results, water Viburnum plants well throughout the growing season until they are fully established. Choose a sunny or semi-shaded position in moderately fertile, well-drained soil. Before planting, enrich the soil with plenty of garden compost or well-rotted manure, and plant the shrub at the same depth as it was in its pot. Backfill the planting hole and water thoroughly to ensure the soil settles. Viburnum plants need minimal pruning, but after flowering, cut back stems to a healthy bud. Trim any stems that spoil the plant's symmetry. Position: sun or semi-shade. Height: up to 300cm (118in). Spread: up to 200cm (79in).
