- Compact tree for small gardens and patios
- Sweet cherries with spring blossoms
- Low maintenance, perfect for containers
The ‘Sylvia’ cherry tree is a highly productive and reliable variety, prized for its delicious fruit. This compact mini tree, grafted onto dwarfing rootstock, thrives in smaller gardens or even patio containers, making it ideal for balconies. Enjoy beautiful white blossom in spring, followed by a summer harvest of cherries, and attractive autumn foliage. Plant in a 60cm (2’) diameter container with John Innes No.3 compost, or in well-drained soil in a sunny, sheltered spot. Plant at the original soil level, firm in, and water thoroughly. Minimal pruning is needed. For best results, prune in the first spring after planting: select 3-4 well-spaced branches on a clear trunk (at least 75cm/29”), shortening them by two-thirds. Remove the central stem above the highest selected branch, and any laterals below. The following spring, select 3-4 sub-laterals on each branch, shortening by half to create a balanced framework. Subsequent pruning involves removing damaged, misplaced, or diseased wood during summer. Fruit thinning isn't necessary. Mature height: up to 1m; spread: up to 45cm. Supplied as a single ‘Sylvia’ mini cherry tree in a 9cm pot.
