Product Information

  • Supplied as a packet containing 8 seeds
  • Matures from green to yellow for vibrant harvests
  • Suitable for greenhouse or sunny outdoor positions

Bring a burst of colour and crunch to your garden with the Thompson and Morgan Sweet Astor Pepper F1 Hybrid Seeds, producing long peppers that start green and ripen to a vibrant yellow from mid-summer to mid-autumn. Perfect for salads, grilling, or barbecuing, these crisp peppers can be grown in greenhouses or sunny, sheltered spots outdoors, reaching up to 150cm tall and 60cm wide. Each packet contains eight seeds, supplied with full growing and care instructions, making it easy to enjoy a high yield whether you're a seasoned gardener or just starting out. Sow sweet pepper seeds on the surface of a good, free-draining, damp, seed sowing mix and cover with a fine sprinkling of compost or vermiculite. Place seed trays in a propagator at a temperature of 18-25°C (64-77F) until germination, which takes seven to ten days. Do not exclude light, as this helps germination. When seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant into individual 7.5cm pots of compost and grow on in cooler conditions. When plants are well grown, and all risk of frost has passed, transplant them into grow bags and containers, or plant them in well-prepared beds of fertile, moist, well-drained soil. Peppers may be grown undercover in a greenhouse or polytunnel, or grown outdoors in a sheltered position in full sun. Water sweet pepper plants regularly throughout the growing season and feed weekly with a high-potash tomato fertiliser once the first fruits have set. Taller varieties of sweet peppers may require staking. Provide a thick mulch of organic matter around the base of the plants to help conserve moisture and reduce weed growth. Ideal For: Patio, Greenhouse, Conservatory, Kitchen Garden. Hardiness: Half-hardy. Position In: Full sun. Height: Up to 150cm. Spread: Up to 60cm. Delivered with growing and care instructions. Images shown are for guidance only of the expected results from plants upon maturity. Different growing conditions might vary the results. An image may be included to illustrate the supply, but it can vary with seasonal changes (e.g., deciduous plants lose leaves in colder months).
