- Works well as statement plant in large containers or borders
- Blooms impressively in late spring
- Requires minimal maintenance with no pruning needed
Welcome summer with the radiant glow of Magnolia ‘Yellow Bird’, also known as the Lily tree! This variety offers a spectacular display each spring, showcasing lemon-yellow, goblet-shaped flowers. Blooming alongside the emerging dark green leaves, the contrast of green and gold creates a stunning visual impact, brightening the garden as the season transitions. Naturally growing into a medium-sized tree, it serves as an ideal centrepiece for sunny gardens or partially shaded areas, providing low-maintenance colour and structure year after year. If space is limited, it can be easily pruned to maintain the desired shape and size. Plant magnolias in a sunny or semi-shaded position, sheltered from cold winds and hard spring frosts. Magnolias thrive in rich, moist, well-drained, acid to neutral soil. Enhance the soil before planting by incorporating plenty of well-rotted manure or garden compost, mixing thoroughly and deeply. Magnolia plants establish more quickly when their roots are shaded. After planting, mulch with rotted bark chips, manure, or garden compost, avoiding mounding around the stem of the plant. When growing magnolia in a patio container, use a blend of ericaceous compost mixed with John Innes No. 3.
