A recent introduction, this Sweet Box variety features larger, glossy dark green leaves that beautifully complement its spidery white flowers, followed by glossy red berries that mature to a deep black. Also known as Christmas Box, it brings year-round colour, scent, and structure to winter borders and shaded spots.
Ideal for adding interest and fragrance during the colder months, this low-maintenance shrub thrives in diverse conditions, from dry shade to damp woodland edges. Reaching a maximum height and spread of 100cm, Winter Gem is easy to grow. Plant in semi-shade to shade, though it tolerates full sun if the soil remains moist. Hardy and suitable for most gardens, water regularly until established, after which it becomes drought tolerant. Feed with a balanced fertiliser in spring, and avoid waterlogged soils.
