This low-maintenance, drought-tolerant gem is an excellent addition to gardens of all styles, thriving in both borders and pots. Expect a rewarding, season-long display year after year.
To nurture your Salvia, pot up the plants into containers filled with free-draining compost. Keep them in a frost-free environment until they’re robust enough for outdoor planting. Once the threat of frost has passed and the plants are well-developed, gradually acclimatise them to outdoor conditions over 7 to 10 days. Plant them outdoors in moist, well-drained soil, choosing a sheltered location with plenty of sunshine. Feed and water regularly until fully established.
While perennial, this Salvia benefits from winter protection, particularly in colder regions of the UK. If grown in containers, move them to a cold greenhouse or conservatory during the winter months. In late spring, lightly prune to remove dead stems and encourage a bushy habit.
