This compact and tidy evergreen is remarkably low maintenance, requiring only a light trim each year to maintain its neat, rounded shape. A reliable and award-winning variety, this Photinia is wonderfully unfussy, thriving in a sunny or partially shaded spot and tolerating almost any soil type.
Enjoy year-round interest from the glossy evergreen foliage, which is particularly stunning in spring and early summer when the young leaves emerge in a vibrant red hue. For best results, grow Photinia plants in a sunny or semi-shaded location, in moderately fertile, moist, well-drained soil. Before planting, enrich the soil with plenty of well-rotted manure or garden compost. Plant Photinia shrubs at the same depth as they were in their pots, backfill the planting hole, and water thoroughly to settle the soil. When planting in containers, use a soil-based compost such as John Innes No.3. Water regularly throughout the growing season until young plants are fully established. In spring, apply a mulch of well-rotted manure or garden compost to the base of the plant. Once established, Photinia requires minimal care.
