Doctor King Red' Camellia is a true cottage garden gem, celebrated for its beauty and easy care. This camellia boasts a bushy habit and a robust structure of lush, evergreen foliage, providing year-round interest. The deep forest green leaves create a striking backdrop for the profusion of large, red-pink, multi-petalled flowers, each enhanced by a vibrant, spiky yellow centre.
For optimal growth, Camellias need moist, well-drained, acidic soil and a sheltered spot with partial shade. In areas lacking natural acidity, grow your Camellia in a patio container with ericaceous compost mixed with John Innes No. 3, ensuring it's placed in dappled shade. Water regularly until the plant is well-established, ideally using rainwater to avoid lime build-up. Feed occasionally with a fertiliser specially formulated for acid-loving plants. Protect from harsh winter winds and strong morning sunlight to prevent bud drop in early spring.
