Enjoy a midsummer harvest of tasty, juicy raspberries with this high-yielding variety. The deep red berries hold well, perfect for eating fresh or freezing for later. Plant in rows, spacing plants 38cm (15in) apart, with 1.8m (6ft) between rows. Choose a sunny or partially shaded spot with well-drained soil, and enrich the soil with plenty of well-rotted compost or manure in autumn.
Create a framework of posts and wires to support the canes as they grow. Water summer-fruiting raspberries well during their first year to ensure they become fully established. Loosely tie the stems to the support wires as they grow. Protect your crop from birds by netting the plants once the berries begin to develop.
In autumn, prune the canes that have fruited over the summer down to ground level. Tie any non-fruiting canes into their supports, aiming for 6 to 8 fruiting canes per plant. In spring, apply a mulch of well-rotted manure or garden compost around the base of the canes to help retain moisture throughout the summer.
