- Early spring white-pink blossoms
- Compact shrub great for small gardens
- Fiery orange-red autumn foliage
A garden favourite, the Fuji Cherry 'Kojo-no-mai' bursts into life in early spring with a flamboyant show of delicate, pink-tinged white blossoms, providing a vital early nectar source for bees when much of the garden is still dormant. Unlike more familiar cherry tree varieties, this cultivar forms a neat, compact shrub, perfectly suited for smaller gardens or those seeking low-maintenance options. As autumn approaches, the leaves of this RHS AGM variety transform into fiery shades of orange and red, ensuring a long season of visual interest.
For a stunning spring display, plant in a shrub border alongside early spring bulbs. It thrives in full sun or partial shade, in any fertile, well-drained soil. Prior to planting, enrich the soil with plenty of compost or well-rotted manure to promote optimal growth. Water regularly until the plant is fully established. Ornamental cherries require minimal pruning; simply remove any diseased, damaged, or crossing shoots to maintain a healthy framework. In spring, apply a mulch of well-rotted manure or compost around the base of the plant, being careful not to mound it against the stem.
Position: Sun or Partial Shade. Height: Up to 2.5m. Spread: Up to 2.5m.
