- Perfect for small spaces and patios
- Ideal for snacks
- Great for fresh fruit, jams, and summer desserts
Black Amber' Plum is a prolific variety, bearing fruit with dark skins and soft, sweet, juicy flesh. Perfect for snacking, jams or puddings, this compact tree yields an abundant summer harvest. Grafted onto dwarf rootstock, this plum is ideal for smaller gardens, allowing you to enjoy home-grown fruit even with limited space.
For patio planting, use 60cm (2’) diameter containers with quality compost such as John Innes No.3. Alternatively, plant in well-drained soil in a sheltered, sunny spot. Plant at the original soil level, firm in, and water well. Container plants need regular feeding and watering.
Pruning starts immediately after planting. Cut back the central stem just above the highest side branch. For the next 3 years, prune only the tips of the main branches by a third in winter. Aim for around six main branches to form the tree’s frame, with fruiting sub-branches growing from them. From the fourth year, some sub-branches can be pruned where they join the main branch to allow new sub-branches to develop.
Position in full sun. Expect a height of up to 1m and a spread of up to 45cm when fully grown. Supplied as 1 x Prunus Plum 'Black Amber' mini fruit tree in a 9cm pot.
