- Hardy shrub with cute flowers
- Grows in sun or semi shade
- Colour changing foliage throughout each season
A garden favourite, Photinia Red Robin is prized for its vibrant scarlet young leaves that emerge in spring. The glossy new foliage and crimson stems provide a striking contrast against the established green leaves, creating an attractive two-tone effect. Rounded clusters of creamy white flowers complement the spring foliage. This popular evergreen shrub is versatile; ideal for adding a splash of colour to woodland areas and shrubberies, or as a low-maintenance specimen plant. Tolerant of hard pruning, this colourful variety also makes a fantastic evergreen hedge. Plant in a sunny or partially shaded spot, in moderately fertile, moist, well-drained soil. In areas prone to frost, position it near a warm wall or among other shrubs for shelter. Before planting, enrich the soil with well-rotted manure or garden compost. Plant at the same depth as it was in the nursery pot, backfill, and water thoroughly to settle the soil. Water regularly during the growing season until established. Apply a mulch of well-rotted manure or garden compost to the base in spring. Once established, it needs minimal care; simply remove any damaged stems and lightly trim those that spoil the shape of the plant after flowering in summer. When grown as a hedge, trim up to three times a year, from late spring to mid-August. Position: Sun or Partial Shade. Height: Up to 4m. Spread: Up to 4m. Supplied in a 3.6-litre nursery pot.
