To get started, pot up your petunia plants and nurture them in a warm, frost-free environment until ready for transplanting later on. Pinch out the growing tip of each stem to encourage branching, resulting in a bushier plant which will produce more flowers later on. Once the risk of frost has passed, gradually acclimatise the plants to outdoor conditions over 7 to 10 days. Then, transplant them into well-drained soil in baskets, window boxes, or containers, ensuring they receive full sun. Regular feeding and watering, especially during hot, dry spells, will keep them healthy and blooming. Deadheading spent flowers will encourage continuous flowering throughout the summer.
