Product Information

  • Fruity-flavoured chilli with intense heat
  • Turns green to red when ripe
  • Sun or greenhouse growing recommended

Scotch Bonnet plants offer a fiery kick, ideal for adding intense heat to your dishes and sauces. Originating in Mexico, these chillies boast a fruity flavour before the lingering heat intensifies. Expect tall plants with crops that mature early, transitioning from lime green to orange, and finally to a menacing dark red with wrinkled skin.
For optimal results, cultivate in a greenhouse or a hot and sunny spot in the garden. Harvest once fully ripe for fresh or dried use. Chilli peppers may be grown undercover in a greenhouse or polytunnel, or grown outdoors in a sheltered position in full sun. Start by potting young plants and nurturing them in warm, free-draining conditions. As they mature, transplant into grow bags, containers, or well-prepared beds of fertile, well-drained soil. When growing outdoors, gradually acclimatise plants to outdoor conditions over 7-10 days before transplanting, spacing them 50cm (20") apart.
Regular feeding and watering are essential to prevent bud drop. Taller varieties may need staking. Apply a generous mulch of organic matter to retain moisture and suppress weeds. In greenhouses, maintain high humidity by damping down paths daily.
