Flourishing in full sun or semi-shade, these plants prefer moist, well-drained soil. For heavier soil types, incorporating grit before planting will significantly improve drainage. It’s best to avoid areas prone to waterlogging during winter to prevent root rot.
Post-planting, a layer of coarse grit around the base of the plant aids drainage, further protecting against leaf and crown rot. Regular deadheading will encourage a longer flowering period, and dividing overcrowded clumps in spring will maintain plant vigour.
