Instantly recognisable for its large, glossy, heart-shaped dark green leaves that develop distinctive holes as they mature, this South American native makes a stunning focal point in hallways, living rooms, and conservatories where it has room to flourish.
An adaptable houseplant, the Monstera thrives in average room temperatures between 18°C and 24°C, away from cold draughts and radiators. While it prefers a brightly lit spot in dappled shade away from direct sunlight, it can tolerate lower light levels, although this will slow its growth. Remember to consider its rapid growth rate and eventual size, reaching up to 250cm in both height and spread, when choosing a location.
Water your Monstera regularly, allowing the soil to dry out slightly between waterings. Feed regularly from March to September during its active growth period. This plant enjoys a humid environment, so stand it on a pebble-filled tray with water to increase humidity as it evaporates, or mist the foliage daily.
The Monstera can grow to impressive proportions in just a few years. Prune stems as needed to manage its size. For best results and a tidier appearance, train it onto a moss pole. Ideal for greenhouses and conservatories. This is a tender plant.
