- Yellow and ivory blooms from midsummer to autumn
- Releases a sweet perfume
- Glossy scarlet berries follow the flowers
Thompson & Morgan’s ‘Scentsation’ Honeysuckle (Periclymenum ‘Scentsation’) offers a truly captivating fragrance and enduring summer appeal. From midsummer through to September, this deciduous woodbine produces abundant, pale yellow and ivory blooms, renowned for their powerfully sweet perfume. As the flowers fade, striking scarlet berries take their place, offering continued visual interest and a valuable food source for garden birds.
This vigorous climber is ideally suited to walls, fences, pergolas, or sturdy trellis supports. Plant in fertile, moist, yet free-draining soil, choosing a position that enjoys sun or partial shade. To improve poorer soils, incorporate generous amounts of well-rotted manure or garden compost. When growing in containers, a soil-based compost like John Innes No.3 is recommended, with regular feeding and watering until established.
Keep an eye out for aphids, especially when grown in sunny spots, and prune immediately after flowering – begin by removing the oldest stems, then shorten the remaining growth to manage its size. A spring mulch of well-rotted manure or compost will also benefit the plant. ‘Scentsation’ Honeysuckle is a superb choice for cottage, woodland, or scented gardens.
