This ‘Giant Flowered Collection’ presents an impressive mix of three sought-after giant-flowered lilies, showcasing ‘Pretty Woman White’, Primrose Hill’ and ‘Tasman’. These oriental lilies thrive in moist, well-drained soil, ideally neutral to acidic, and rich in organic matter. Prior to planting, enrich the soil with well-rotted manure or garden compost to give your lilies an excellent start. When planting in containers, opt for a loam-based compost such as John Innes No.2. Plant lily bulbs at a depth approximately three times their height and spaced 15cm (6”) apart. Deep planting helps protect the bulbs during warmer periods. Choose a sheltered, sunny location, ensuring the lilies can grow with their heads in the sun and their roots in the shade.
Feed and water these oriental lily bulbs regularly throughout the growing season, maintaining consistent moisture. Deadhead spent flowers at the base where they join the stem to prevent seed pod development. After flowering, leave the stems intact until they begin to yellow in autumn. Reduce watering and move container-grown lilies to a cool, frost-free location over winter. Lilies grown in borders can be lifted, cleaned, and stored for the winter, though in milder regions, most lilies should survive outdoors, provided the soil isn't overly wet.
