Product Information

  • Sweet egg shaped fruit
  • Harvested in August and September for a delicious, freshly picked dessert
  • Perfect for sunny spots, walls, and fences

Issai' Kiwi is a hardy, self-fertile variety producing delicious, sweet, egg-shaped fruits ready for harvesting in August and September – a perfect dessert straight from the garden. This spectacular climber boasts simple ovate leaves, with small clusters of cup-shaped flowers potentially appearing in summer on female or hermaphrodite plants. If space is limited, this is an ideal choice for a single, stunning climber in your fruit garden.
Ideal for kitchen gardens, walls and fences, this hardy plant thrives in a position in full sun. Reaching heights of up to 6m and spreading up to 4m, the 'Issai' Kiwi plants are supplied in 9cm pots.
For optimal growth, plant kiwi vines in any fertile, well-drained soil in a sheltered spot, as they are sensitive to adverse weather conditions. Before planting, incorporate plenty of well-rotted manure or garden compost into the planting hole. Plant firmly, water generously, and provide support such as wires strung between sturdy posts to train the twining stems as an espalier. Regular feeding and watering are essential, especially during hot, dry spells. Train the stems onto their supports. In autumn, apply a mulch of well-rotted manure or compost around the base. Prune kiwi fruit plants in winter, focusing on creating an espalier framework with one permanent leading stem and two horizontal stems during the first two years. Cut back the leading shoot to maintain it within the allotted space. Fruit develops on the previous year's wood and also on fruit spurs created by cutting back side shoots on horizontal stems to 3 or 4 buds. Images shown are for guidance only of the expected results from plants upon maturity. Different growing conditions may vary results. Image may be included for illustration of supply, but may vary due to seasonality changes and may not be the exact variety.
