Jenny' Kiwi is a self-fertile and reliably hardy grower, an outstanding choice where space is limited to a single plant. This climber is an impressive garden specimen, boasting red-tipped, heart-shaped foliage and delightful clusters of small white summer flowers. The sweet, egg-shaped fruits ripen in August and September – a delicious treat picked fresh from your own garden.
Plant in a sunny location with fertile, well-drained soil. Shelter from harsh weather is essential, as kiwis are sensitive to adverse conditions. Before planting, enrich the soil with plenty of well-rotted manure or garden compost, firm the plant in place, and water thoroughly. Train the twining stems along sturdy support wires strung between posts, creating an attractive espalier. Water and feed regularly until fully established, particularly during hot, dry spells. Train stems carefully onto supports. In autumn, mulch around the base of the plant with well-rotted manure or compost. Prune in winter.
