The Hypericum ‘Hidcote’, or St John’s Wort, treats you to a vibrant display of yellow flowers, bringing a burst of sunshine to your garden from summer well into autumn. As the blooms fade, the foliage takes on a bronze hue, complemented by attractive peach-coloured berries – a favourite for adding to autumn bouquets. This low-maintenance Hypericum thrives in almost any soil, whether in sun or shade.
Producing multiple stems from the base, it’s easy to thin out or prune to the desired size for your garden. Plant St John’s Wort in any garden soil, in a spot sheltered from cold winds. A versatile plant, Hypericum copes well in poor, dry soils and even thrives in deep shade. While young plants are establishing, feed and water them regularly throughout the growing season. Mature plants require little attention. Each spring, prune St John's Wort plants back to ground level to encourage fresh, new growth.
