Introducing 'Switch Ophelia', a perfectly formed Hydrangea Paniculata, ideal for patios or the forefront of your borders! Reaching a compact height of just 50cm, this variety flowers earlier than many other paniculata types. As the name 'Switch Ophelia' suggests, the striking blooms transition in colour as they mature, opening as a greenish-white before developing a charming pink blush as summer unfolds, eventually deepening to a rich pink towards the season's end. This Hydrangea is both handsome and undemanding, offering a rewarding growing experience. Height and spread: 50cm.
Hydrangea paniculata thrives in a sunny or semi-shaded location, sheltered from harsh, drying winds. Plant in any fertile, moist, non-alkaline soil. Enhance the soil before planting by incorporating plenty of well-rotted manure or garden compost, ensuring it's thoroughly mixed in. Water regularly until fully established. To protect the delicate buds from frost damage, leave the faded flower heads in place until new buds appear in spring. Prune after flowering, reducing stems to manage growth and enhance the plant's shape. If necessary, Hydrangea paniculata can tolerate hard pruning of the oldest stems, cutting back to a few buds from ground level, which encourages larger flower heads. After pruning, apply a mulch of well-rotted manure or compost around the plant's base.
