Hydrangea paniculata 'Limelight' showcases impressive conical flower heads that begin with a gentle pea green hue, gradually transforming through creamy shades to a delicate soft pink. This Hydrangea is a sight to behold, especially when blooms display a captivating three-toned effect as they mature at different rates. These magnificent blooms also make exquisite cut flowers, bringing exceptional late-summer colour to woodland gardens and mixed borders alike. For optimal growth, plant in a sunny or partially shaded location, sheltered from cold, drying winds. Any non-alkaline, fertile, moist soil will suit it well. Enrich the soil before planting with plenty of well-rotted manure or garden compost, ensuring it's thoroughly mixed in. Water regularly until fully established. To protect delicate buds from frost damage, leave the faded flower heads in place until new buds appear in spring.
Prune after flowering to control growth and enhance the plant's shape, reducing stems as needed to restrict their growth to the available space. If required, hard pruning of the oldest stems down to a few buds from ground level is tolerated, which also encourages larger flower heads to be produced. After pruning, apply a mulch of well-rotted manure or compost around the plant's base.
