Product Information

  • Multi-tonal mophead blooms all summer
  • Autumn leaves turn red and gold
  • Compact shrub for patio or borders

From the innovative Royalty Collection, Hydrangea macrophylla 'Lady Mata Hari Blue' presents an exciting twist with its mophead blooms, showcasing a mesmerising kaleidoscope of colour. The clustered flowers display multi-tonal shades, blending mauve-blue with creamy-white and apple-green, ensuring that each bloom is utterly unique.
This compact, deciduous shrub is ideal as a patio feature or within lightly shaded borders, providing a showy display throughout the summer months. As autumn arrives, the foliage transforms into vibrant reds and golds, while the faded flower heads prolong the seasonal interest well into winter.
Like many Hydrangea varieties, the soil pH can influence the colour tones of the blooms. Hydrangea macrophylla thrives in a sunny or semi-shaded location, sheltered from harsh, drying winds. For optimal growth, plant in rich, fertile, moist soil, enriched with well-rotted manure or garden compost. Alternatively, plant in patio containers using a soil-based compost such as John Innes No. 3.
Note that the blue flowers may develop a pink hue as they fade during autumn, potentially influenced by alkaline tap water or soil. To maintain the deepest blue flower colour throughout the season, the use of Hydrangea Colourant is recommended.
