Product Information

  • Produces 6 times more flowers than usual
  • Colour changes with soil acidity
  • Compact and perfect for shaded spots

Hydrangea ‘French Bolero’ is a modern hybrid shrub, a cross between H. scandens and H. macrophylla, known for producing six times more flowers than standard hydrangeas. This variety showcases blooms along the entire length of each stem, emerging from strong lateral buds to create an abundant floral display. Similar to one of its parents, H. macrophylla, its large blooms change colour depending on the soil's acidity; alkaline soils yield pink blooms, while acidic soils result in purple and blue shades. With a compact, spreading habit, Hydrangea ‘French Bolero’ is ideal for lightly shaded borders and makes an elegant patio plant. Expect a height and spread of up to 100cm (39"). These hydrangeas thrive in shade or semi-shade, sheltered from cold, drying winds, and prefer rich, fertile, moist soil. Before planting, enrich the soil with well-rotted manure or garden compost, ensuring it's thoroughly mixed in. Alternatively, plant Hydrangea macrophylla in patio containers using ericaceous compost. Supplied as 1 x Hydrangea ‘French Bolero’ in a 13cm pot, it flowers from June to September. Note that images are for guidance only, and results may vary based on growing conditions and seasonality.
