- Produces white summer blooms
- Features heart-shaped leaves
- Grows up to 10m tall and spreads up to 3m
Climbing Hydrangea, Hydrangea petiolaris, is an elegant variety, ideal for brightening up those shady, north-facing spots. This shade-loving plant showcases lacy white blooms throughout summer, beautifully contrasting with its dark green foliage. As autumn arrives, the heart-shaped leaves transform into a buttery yellow, illuminating even the darkest corners of your garden. While it may take a little time to establish, this superb RHS AGM variety will quickly scale walls and fences, using its clinging aerial roots. It thrives in sunny, semi-shaded, or fully shaded locations, sheltered from cold, drying winds. Plant in rich, fertile, moist soil, improving it with plenty of well-rotted manure or garden compost before planting, ensuring it's thoroughly mixed in. Grow against walls and fences where it will naturally cling and support itself. Water regularly until fully established. Prune immediately after flowering to restrict growth and improve the plant's shape. In spring, apply a mulch of well-rotted manure or compost around the base. Caution: Contact with foliage may irritate the skin and eyes, and all parts are harmful if eaten. Position: Sun or Partial Shade. Height: Up to 10m. Spread: Up to 3m. Supplied in a 2 Litre Nursery Pot.
