Gooseberry Giggles Red is a wonderful addition to your nursery, offering the promise of delicious, medium-sized berries for your enjoyment. These plants arrive as 9cm potted specimens, ready to be planted directly into your garden.
For best results, plant your gooseberry bushes in a sunny or partially shaded location with well-drained soil. Before planting, enrich the soil with plenty of well-rotted manure or garden compost. Remove any shoots or dormant buds from the base to prevent unwanted suckers. Plant the gooseberries 1.5m (5') apart, ensuring the original depth (indicated by the nursery soil mark on the stem) is maintained.

Water thoroughly during the first year to help the plants become fully established. Ensure the soil doesn't dry out during hotter periods. Remove any suckers that appear at the base of the plant as they arise. Protect the berries from birds by netting the bushes.
Harvest some of the gooseberries in May for cooking and freezing, and allow the remaining fruit to ripen fully in June for fresh consumption. Prune during the winter months. Remove any dead, damaged, or crossing stems, and then thin the remaining stems to create an upright, open bush. Shorten the leftover stems by half. In spring, apply a mulch of well-rotted manure or garden compost to the soil.
