Gooseberry Giggles Red offers the joy of growing your own delicious, medium-sized berries right in your garden! These 9cm potted plants are ready to be planted in an open, sunny position with well-drained soil.
Before planting, enrich the soil with well-rotted manure or garden compost. Remove any shoots or dormant buds from the base to prevent unwanted suckers. Plant the gooseberry bushes 1.5m (5') apart, ensuring the original depth matches the mark on the stem from the nursery soil.

Water generously during the first year to help the plants establish. Ensure the soil doesn't dry out in hot weather and remove any suckers that appear at the base. Netting the bushes will protect the berries from birds. Harvest some gooseberries in May for cooking and freezing, and allow the rest to ripen fully in June for fresh eating. Prune in winter, removing dead, damaged, and crossing stems, then thin the remaining stems to create an open, upright bush. Shorten the remaining stems by half. In spring, mulch the soil with well-rotted manure or garden compost.
