This hardy Gardenia thrives outdoors year-round in a sheltered border or patio container, filling your space with its intoxicating fragrance from July onwards. For optimal growth, plant in fertile, well-drained, slightly acidic to neutral soil, or use ericaceous compost for containers. A sheltered spot with partial shade or dappled sunlight is ideal. Water with rainwater whenever possible to maintain soil acidity. Regular feeding with a balanced liquid feed during the growing season will encourage healthy growth. A light spring prune will maintain its attractive shape. While hardy, it appreciates extra protection during particularly cold spells.
