- Produces luscious purple black fig
- Yields 2 generous harvests each year
- Grows in sunny sheltered spots
Elevate your garden with the Thompson and Morgan Fig Negronne Violette De Bourdea Plant Pot, a time-honoured variety dating back to 1680. Celebrated for its hardiness, this fig thrives in UK gardens, reliably producing flavoursome crops. The small, purple-black fruits offer a delightful aroma on warm, sunny days.
Fig ‘Violette de Bordeaux’ provides two harvests annually: one in summer, followed by a second that develops for early ripening the following year, especially with frost protection. Plant in a sheltered, sunny position, ideally a south-facing wall. Figs thrive in moisture-retentive, fertile, well-drained soil that is slightly alkaline. Enrich the planting hole with well-rotted manure or garden compost before planting.
Figs are vigorous but can be contained by planting them in a submerged container using well-drained compost such as John Innes No.3. Repot container-grown figs every two years. For wall training, install support wires before planting. Water regularly, particularly in hot, dry weather. Feeding is minimal; a spring mulch of well-rotted manure or compost suffices.
This plant can reach a height of up to 3m and a spread of up to 4m when fully established. Supplied as 1 x Fig ‘Violette de Bordeaux’ / ‘Negronne’ bush in a 3 Litre Pot, complete with growing and care instructions. Images are for guidance only; results vary with growing conditions and seasonality. Deciduous plants lose leaves in colder months.
