Fig plants boast a rich horticultural heritage, originating from a single tree that has graced London’s Chelsea Embankment, overlooking the Thames, for many years. The 'Chelsea' variety produces an abundance of firm, delicious green figs amidst its attractive olive-green foliage. Specially cultivated for patio containers, these plants can also be planted directly into the ground if desired.
Expect the first figs to appear in the spring, ripening from August through September. This variety is easy to care for and maintain throughout the growing and harvesting seasons. A second crop may follow later in the summer. With protection – wrapping in garden fleece to shield from cold winds – you can look forwards to a plentiful harvest the following summer.
