Cotinus Coggygria ‘Royal Purple’ from Thompson & Morgan is a neat, bushy, low-maintenance shrub that will last for years in your garden, putting on a show that's sure to impress the neighbours. This popular and easy-to-grow shrub boasts glorious, beetroot-coloured, rounded leaves, which grow in whorls around the stem. On a sunny day, the leaves appear almost translucent, transforming into marvellous copper tones come autumn. The feathery blooms are a sight to behold.
The Smoke Bush will thrive in a variety of soils, tolerating both full sun and semi-shade, and requires minimal complicated pruning. To maintain its shape and remove any dead, diseased, or damaged growth, prune as needed. Alternatively, for larger, showier foliage, cut back stems in spring to within 2 or 3 buds of the base. After pruning, mulch the base of your plants with well-rotted compost or manure.
