- Impressive fiery foliage and stems
- Small white blooms followed by shiny black berries
- Ideal for adding year-round interest
Winter Flame' Dogwood is a superb shrub, bringing vibrant colour to your garden throughout the year. This impressive variety is primarily appreciated for its vibrant autumn foliage. In summer, the leaves are a lush green, before transforming into brilliant red shades in autumn. Once the leaves have fallen, the striking yellow, orange and red stems are revealed. This Dogwood variety also produces tiny white flowers in summer, followed by glossy black berries, adding further to its visual appeal. This deciduous shrub is extremely versatile, creating a garden display that looks fantastic year-round. To get your Cornus plants off to the best start, repot them into large containers using a soil-based compost, such as John Innes No. 3. Once the Dogwood plants have grown sufficiently, transplant them into well-drained soil in a sunny location. Regular feeding and watering are essential until the plants are fully established; after this, they will require less attention. To encourage the most vibrant stem colour, it’s important to pollard the Dogwood in early spring, cutting back all stems to three buds above soil level or to establish a permanent low framework. After pruning, apply a mulch of well-rotted manure or other organic matter around the base of the plant. Please be aware that the images are for guidance only and illustrate the expected results of mature plants, which can vary depending on growing conditions. Seasonal changes can also affect the plant's appearance; for example, deciduous plants will lose their leaves in the colder months.
