Ideal for adding an exotic touch to any garden, this plant's vibrant foliage makes a statement. Starting as a small plant, it matures into a palm-like tree. Hardy and tolerant of challenging conditions, it thrives in coastal gardens with salt air, dry soils and exposed locations. For best results, grow Cordylines in fertile, well-drained soil in a sheltered, sunny spot. Cordylines are particularly well-suited to mild coastal locations, but enriching the soil with well-rotted manure at planting is recommended. Water and feed regularly until established. Established Cordylines require minimal attention but benefit from winter protection when temperatures drop below -5°C (23°F). In colder regions, consider growing them in large patio containers that can be moved indoors during the coldest months.
