- Large white blooms with soft mauve tint
- Flowers early and late summer flushes
- Grows well on walls fences and containers
Clematis ‘Snow Queen’ is known for its large, white flowers with a delicate mauve hue that gently fades. At its finest in early summer, this Clematis also produces a second flush of flowers in late summer, often adorned with pale pink stripes.
This Clematis makes an excellent companion climber, but is equally stunning when grown alone in borders or containers. Choose a sunny or semi-shaded position and plant deeply in moist, fertile, well-drained soil, ensuring the root ball is 7.5cm below the surface to encourage new shoots from the base. Clematis dislikes excessively wet or dry conditions, but these can be improved by incorporating well-rotted manure or garden compost. When planting in containers, use a good quality soil-based compost.
Train the plant onto suitable support such as a trellis, wires, or a freestanding climbing frame. Feed and water regularly throughout the growing season. Clematis ‘Snow Queen’ flowers in summer on new stems grown from the previous year. Prune Group Two clematis in spring, before new growth begins, by removing any damaged or dead stems and cutting back remaining stems to a pair of healthy buds. In spring, apply a mulch of well-rotted manure or garden compost to protect the roots and retain soil moisture.
Ideal for patios, walls, fences and cottage gardens. This hardy plant thrives in a position in sun or semi-shade, reaching a height of up to 300cm and spreading up to 100cm.
