- Evergreen leaves with large white spring flowers
- Great for trellis, obelisks, or borders
- Hardy climber, thrives in sun or semi-shade
Evergreen Clematis Avalanche showcases ornate, heavily dissected leaves from early spring, providing a striking backdrop to its glistening white flowers. This variety boasts some of the largest blooms, with flowers reaching up to four centimetres in diameter. Its non-clinging stems make it perfect for borders or training onto an obelisk or trellis, creating a show-stopping display.
For best results, plant Clematis Avalanche in a sunny or semi-shaded spot, ensuring the root ball is 7.5cm below the surface in moist, fertile, well-drained soil to encourage new shoots from the base of the plant. Clematis thrives in soil that is neither too wet nor too dry; improve soil conditions by incorporating plenty of well-rotted manure or garden compost. When planting clematis in containers, opt for a soil-based compost.
Train these clematis plants onto a suitable support such as a trellis, wires or a freestanding climbing frame. Feed and water regularly during the growing season. Clematis Avalanche flowers in early spring on the previous year’s growth. Prune Group One clematis in summer, after flowering, by removing any damaged or dead stems entirely and cutting back the remaining stems to a pair of healthy buds to maintain the plant within its allotted space. Mulch with well-rotted manure or garden compost in spring to protect the roots and conserve soil moisture.
Ideal for patios, walls, fences, and cottage gardens. Hardy. Position in sun or semi-shade. Reaches a height of up to 250cm and spreading up to 100cm.
