Add a burst of autumnal colour to your garden with these beautiful patio chrysanthemums. Expect a profusion of domed blooms in shades of yellow, pink, and ruby red from late August right through to early November, making them perfect for brightening your garden in the autumn. With their strong stems and long-lasting blooms, these chrysanthemums also make excellent cut flowers, perfect for creating elegant indoor displays.
To cultivate these hardy chrysanthemum plants, pot them up and grow them in bright, frost-free conditions. When the plants reach 15cm in height, pinch off the top 5cm of each stem; this encourages a bushier plant with an abundance of flowers. Once all risk of frost has passed, gradually acclimatise the chrysanthemums to outdoor conditions over a period of seven to ten days before planting them in borders and containers using fertile, well-drained soil. Choose a location that receives full sun for best results, and water regularly until fully established.
In late autumn, apply a deep mulch to protect the crowns of the plants during winter. Leave the flowered stems intact until spring to provide some winter protection.
